Biometric Integrity & Anti-Cheat
When financial stakes are involved, verification is everything. If users can easily cheat the system—by shaking their phones to fake steps, or logging manual exercises that never occurred—the trust grid collapses. To build a robust community cooperative, HabitStake implements a multi-layered biometric and telemetry integrity system.
Direct Hardware Sync & API Whitelisting
We do not accept manual activity entries. Our server integrates directly with secure APIs: Apple HealthKit, Google Health Connect, Garmin Connect, and Strava. When you log steps or heart rate data, the system fetches raw sensor timestamps and whitelists only authentic hardware streams. This eliminates manual log overrides.
Telemetry Integration Pipeline
Direct hardware checks prevent manual entry simulation or overrides.
"We process real-time metadata including step frequency, accelerometer variance, and active heart rate curves to identify patterns consistent with shaking devices or simulated movement."
Cross-Checking Data Streams
For high-stake tracks (like daily gym visits or running targets), we employ dual-stream validation. The app matches GPS coordinate clusters with local gym addresses and validates it against active calorie expenditure curves. By verifying that step frequency matches GPS movement speeds, we block common cheating tools.
The Trust Grid Protocol
For subjective habits (like reading, meditation, or wake-up targets) that cannot be measured directly by heart rate sensors, we use the Trust Grid. Successful stakers submit verification pictures or short screen recordings which are distributed to randomly assigned peers (referees) for validation. Referees earn a portion of the penalty pool, ensuring that everyone in the network has a direct incentive to remain honest and review logs accurately.
